A soli 13 anni, spinto dall’incoraggiamento di sua madre, scoprì l’arte della sartoria. Un talento precoce: a 18 anni era già alla guida di un laboratorio di moda nella sua città natale. Il destino lo portò a Parigi nel 1970, cuore pulsante dell’haute couture. Qui iniziò la sua avventura con Hermès, preludio a una carriera che lo avrebbe visto lavorare fianco a fianco con le grandi maison: Thierry Mugler – con cui collaborò per ben quindici anni – Jean-Paul Gaultier, Chanel, Chloé e Christian Lacroix. È a lui che Azzedine Alaïa deve parte del sogno che sarebbe diventata la sua leggendaria maison. Il suo talento ha attraversato passerelle e palcoscenici, vestendo icone immortali come Naomi Campbell, Monica Bellucci, Sean Connery, Isabelle Adjani. La sua firma ha toccato le divise ufficiali della Patrouille de France, fino ai costumi delle hostess del Festival di Cannes e alla decorazione degli aerei che portano il tricolore francese nei cieli. Nel 1989, Curi ha varcato un nuovo confine creativo, entrando nel mondo del cinema e del teatro. È in questa fase che diventa il sarto personale di personalità straordinarie: Richard Berry, Isabelle Adjani, Christophe Lambert, Josiane Balasko, Gérard Depardieu, Johnny Hallyday. Eppure, nonostante una carriera che avrebbe potuto restare ancorata ai riflettori di Parigi, Curi ha scelto il ritorno alle radici. Con generosità e visione ha portato la sua esperienza nei Balcani, fondando scuole di moda a Pristina e Shkup, luoghi in cui nuove generazioni hanno potuto incontrare il savoir-faire di un maestro. La sua scuola, la Design Factory, non è solo un laboratorio, ma un tempio creativo che dialoga con istituzioni prestigiose come IFM ed ESMOD, nell’ambito del Master in Modélisme off-arts. Dal 2011 dirige i laboratori di sartoria e modellistica presso la Fashion Federation, l’organismo che certifica i diplomi di moda. Nello stesso anno è stato nominato direttore artistico dell’azienda macedone Astibo, rinnovando la tradizione del design locale con il suo tocco raffinato. Il riconoscimento internazionale non si è fatto attendere: nel 2018 ha ricevuto il prestigioso BIG SEE Visionary Award, consacrando il suo impatto profondo e duraturo sull’industria della moda. Un episodio simbolico della sua carriera è datato 5 dicembre 1997, quando collaborò con la costumista bosniaca Amelia Vilic a una sfilata in onore dell’UNESCO, nell’ambito del progetto “Tisser des liens entre les nations” (“Intessere legami tra le nazioni”). Una celebrazione di cultura e moda come strumenti di unione. AFW® Albania Fashion Week proudly announces Maestro Izet Curi as an Honorary Member, recognizing his iconic impact on Albanian and global fashion. “Maestro Curi embodies elegance, rigor, and the authentic soul of Albanian fashion,” declares Gentiana Dervishi, founder and director of AFW®. “It is an honor to welcome him as an Honorary Member, acknowledging his extraordinary artistic and human contribution to the world of fashion.” Born in 1948, with roots in Kosovo and raised in Skopje, Izet Curi is one of those figures who belong not only to fashion but to its very DNA. At just 13, encouraged by his mother, he discovered the art of tailoring. A precocious talent: by 18, he was already running a fashion workshop in his hometown. Destiny led him to Paris in 1970, the pulsating heart of haute couture. There he began his journey with Hermès, a prelude to a career that would see him work alongside major fashion houses: Thierry Mugler—with whom he collaborated for fifteen years—Jean-Paul Gaultier, Chanel, Chloé, and Christian Lacroix. It is also to him that Azzedine Alaïa owes part of the dream that became his legendary maison. His talent graced runways and stages, dressing immortal icons such as Naomi Campbell, Monica Bellucci, Sean Connery, Isabelle Adjani. His signature extended to the official uniforms of the Patrouille de France, as well as the costumes of the Cannes Film Festival hostesses and the decoration of the planes flying under the French tricolor. In 1989, Curi ventured into new creative territory, designing costumes for film and theater. During this period, he became the personal tailor of extraordinary personalities: Richard Berry, Isabelle Adjani, Christophe Lambert, Josiane Balasko, Gérard Depardieu, Johnny Hallyday. Yet, despite a career that could have remained anchored in the Paris spotlight, Curi chose to return to his roots. With generosity and vision, he brought his expertise to the Balkans, founding fashion schools in Pristina and Skopje, where new generations could encounter the savoir-faire of a master. His school, Design Factory, is more than a workshop; it is a creative sanctuary collaborating with prestigious institutions such as IFM and ESMOD, within the framework of the Master in Creative Pattern-Making (Modélisme off-arts). Since 2011, he has led sewing and pattern-making workshops at the Fashion Federation, the organization responsible for fashion diploma certification. That same year, he was appointed artistic director of the Macedonian company Astibo, renewing local design traditions with his refined touch. International recognition naturally followed: in 2018, he received the prestigious BIG SEE Visionary Award, cementing his profound and lasting impact on the fashion industry. A symbolic moment in his career occurred on December 5, 1997, when he collaborated with Bosnian costume designer Amelia Vilic for a fashion show honoring UNESCO, as part of the project “Tisser des liens entre les nations” (“Weaving Links Between Nations”). AFW® Albania Fashion Week njofton me krenari mjeshtrin Izet Curi, duke njohur ndikimin e tij ikonik në modën shqiptare dhe globale. “Mjeshtri Curi mishëron elegancën, rigorozitetin dhe shpirtin autentik të modës shqiptare,” deklaron Gentiana Dervishi, themeluese dhe drejtuese e AFW®. “Është një nder ta mirëpresim si Anëtar Nderi, duke njohur kontributin e tij të jashtëzakonshëm artistik dhe human në botën e modës.” I lindur në vitin 1948, me rrënjë në Kosovë dhe i rritur në Shkup, Izet Curi është një nga ato figura që nuk i përkasin vetëm modës, por ADN-së së saj më të thellë. Fati e çoi atë në Paris në vitin 1970, zemrën pulsante të haute couture. Një moment simbolik i karrierës së tij ndodhi më 5 dhjetor 1997, kur bashkëpunoi me kostumografen boshnjake Amelia Vilic për një sfilatë në nder të UNESCO-s, si pjesë e projektit “Tisser des liens entre les nations” (“Gërshetimi i lidhjeve midis kombeve”). Një festë e kulturës dhe modës si mjete të lidhjes. Sot, figura e Izet Curit mbetet ajo e një couturier vizionar, një mjeshtër qepjeje që ka kaluar epoka, skena dhe kombe, duke kthyer çdo pëlhurë në një histori dhe çdo fijë në kujtim.
